Description

Orange Onyx | Translucent Onyx with Ring Patterns for Feature Walls, Backlighting and Counters

Orange Onyx is one of the known coloured onyx stones in the Iranian stone market. Market names such as green, honey, nabati, pink and orange onyx are sometimes based on colour, sometimes on region and sometimes on trade name, so seeing the actual slab is essential for an accurate choice.

Note that onyx is not the same as marble. Marble is mostly used for floors, stairs and interior walls, while onyx is a more special, decorative and delicate material, used mainly where it is meant to be seen.

Colour and Appearance

In the photos of this product, Orange Onyx shows a warm range from honey and amber to light brown, with concentric bands and rings, light layers and white veins. This layered, orbicular pattern is the identity of the stone and looks different in every slab.

When two consecutive slabs are placed as a book-match, the rings mirror each other and create a unified, dramatic surface. For feature projects, selecting consecutive slabs from the same block is therefore important.

Backlighting

Many onyx stones let light pass through, which makes onyx popular for backlit walls and decorative panels. Warm light usually works best with orange, honey and nabati onyx and brings out the depth of the colour and rings. Translucency depends on the thickness, colour and structure of each slab and should be checked on the actual slab before designing the lighting.

Applications

  • Feature walls in lobbies, living rooms, hotels and commercial spaces
  • Backlit walls and panels
  • Decorative interior wall cladding
  • Special counters, tables and vanity tops, keeping surface sensitivity in mind

Orange Onyx is available as slabs for display and book-matched surfaces and as tiles for regular cladding, with a honed finish.

Limitations and Technical Notes

  • Onyx is calcium-based and sensitive to acids; vinegar, hydrochloric acid, strong descalers and acidic cleaners can dull or stain the surface.
  • Some veins are only colour changes, while others may be resin-filled cracks; check the back of the slab and the quality of the mesh, resin and epoxy.
  • It is not a suitable choice for high-traffic floors and is best used on decorative, low-contact surfaces.
  • Suitable thickness and size differ for walls, counters, tables and backlighting and should follow the installation method.

Price

Onyx pricing is usually project- and slab-based, depending on slab pattern and integrity, book-match possibility, thickness, dimensions, resin and mesh quality, finish and quantity. For a quote, review photos of available slabs and provide the dimensions of the wall or piece.

Buying Guide

  • See the actual slab; a generic photo or small sample is not enough for onyx.
  • For backlighting, test translucency with a light source on the same slab.
  • For book-matching, source consecutive, numbered slabs from the same block.
  • Inspect the back of the slab, possible cracks, resin, epoxy and warping.
  • Send the wall or piece layout so cutting and ring placement can be planned before ordering.
